Friday’s Finds: saving when shopping

January 30, 2009

Many of the blogs floating around the blog-o-sphere have posted articles pertaining to shopping habits and how to alter your shopping habits to help save money.  These definitely hit home with me, i am in love with shopping and it tends to be a challenge for me to resist buying stuff, even when i don’t need it.  In many respects i have been able to cut down simply by setting a max price i will spend on a given item, and no longer visiting local shopping centers.  However there are some items that there is no way to get around purchasing such as hygiene products and food.

so without any further delay i present you some of my favorite blogs from the past week that pertain to shopping.

  • I feel like i almost know the author of Almost frugal.  They seem so much like me in respects to there finance habits, or at least how i wish i was.  The article “choosing your grocery store” gives a break down of what type of store tends to carry the best prices for various item.  if you are lucky enough to have several food stores in your area this is a must read for you.
  • At The Simple Dollar the theme of saving was introduced.  he shared some ideas of items that are not typically purchased at warehouse stores such as Costco or BJ’s but they make sense to buy there.  all the items listed in “ten things i like to buy in bulk” are items i had never considered getting in bulk, but will definitely look into next time i need them.
  • ask the M-network: frugal business clothes shopping” featured at I’ve Paid For This Twice Already gives many ideas for getting quality clothing cheap if you cant shop at good will or other thrift shops.  I urge you to also read the comments where many of the readers have contributed additional ideas for saving money.
  • At Give Me Back My Five Bucks Krystalatwork has posed a challenge for the month of February.  To set a food budget and stick to it.  If you would like to join in the challenge you can find it under the title of February Food Challenge.

Honorable Mention

Yup, it is another post from Almost Frugal.  I wanted to draw attention to this blog post since i felt it gave good guidance for changing your train of thought to a saving mentality.  “concepts in frugality: rethinking your thinking” gives a great starting point for a goal i have, and i addressed earlier this week.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and a good Superbowl Sunday, Tomorrow i shall share some of the ways my family keep costs for the Superbowl down.
