I did much better this month at using up products. For the most part i focused on just one product until it was used up in its entirety. Sadly i still have not used up any eyeliners, blushes, nail polishes or eye shadows. I will be keeping my fingers crossed that i used up some of those next month.

Not pictures are some lip glosses that i threw out before thinking i should take there picture. 1 was thrown out due to smelling less than wonderful, the other two were thrown out due to a leaking container and a frayed applicator respectively.

As many of the other personal finance bloggers can attest to it is two steps forwards one step back with your finances. I am very quickly learning that this rule also seems to apply to maintaining an organized life style. It has taken me several months (eek i know!) to get around to organizing this shelf of my bookshelf (and i sadly forgot to take a before picture too). It is not that i did not want it organized, i truly did it was just that the majority of stuff previously on the shelf was not stuff i use on average day. Since the school year is winding down though i do have to put the extra books back so i have the paper there for when my summer classes start. And in all honesty, once i started working on that shelf it did not take much time to fully organize it.

However, in that time i managed to fall behind on putting my laundry away. This is a chore i already hate (especially hanging up pants) but it needs to be done. So tonight my goal is to get all my clothing hung up and hopefully get back on track so that i can get my desk cleared prior to the beginning of my classes. Also, yes those are beanie babys, i was a child in the 90’s and loved them. I only kept 4 (one because it has the same name as my middle name) which i think was much better than the original 50 or so i had as a child.
Do you feel there is any part of your life that the “two steps forward one step back” rule of thumb comes into play?
- Supplement their diet – Surprisingly enough rat food can get quite pricey, so can cat food. While i could say just feed the rats to the cats, i don’t know if my conscience could handle that. Instead what i do is make slight adjustments to there foods that save me money. for the rats i typically buy a less expensive food, this usually means less protein. To counter act the lower amount of protein i typically add a variety of nuts to there food. One of their favorites are peanuts, which they seem to be unable to get enough of. In the same caveat we blend our cat food to make it more like the gravy (which you can buy but it tends to cost a TON).
- Money can’t buy happiness – A lot of times people when they have pets tend to spend a great deal of money on toys. I to did this for some time until i realized that my pet cats quickly grew tired of there store bought toys. Time and time again they would go back to playing with paper and pens and luckily we have a large number of dried up pens and scrap paper in supply.
- Skip the Insurance – This is a more recent development, but as of late insurance companies have been promoting pet insurance. The majority of these only cover accidents or illnesses if you purchase the most expensive option. If you have an indoor outdoor pet i suppose you would have to weigh the costs of the insurance, but for those who have strictly indoor pets it is typically a waste of money. If your cat or indoor dog (one that only goes out when on a leash) is in “average” health you most likely only have to cover the cost of shots at the vet, and the occasional emergency. I urge you to not only consider all options be do the math to ensure the cheaper method of protecting your pets health.*
* One thing I DO NOT suggest is skipping out on the actual health care. Typically our pets become parts of our families, and we want them to have long and healthy lives, and vet visits are a vital part of that.
